Abstract: Enterprise systems demand agile, scalable and intelligent application development frameworks that will enable them to cope with the fast-changing demands in the market. Traditional enterprise systems development takes long periods of time, has relatively high implementation costs and is complex in maintenance; all factors inhibiting enterprise agility. In this paper, a Workday Extend enterprise application framework for enabling enterprise agility is introduced through custom application development, automation of workflows and integration with Workday HCM, Workday Financials and other enterprise services. The workday extend enterprise application development framework adopts low-code, cloud native, REST API based framework, reusable components and real-time analytics to facilitate enterprise application development while providing security, scalability and governance. Comprehensive evaluation was carried out by comparison between the proposed framework and Traditional Development, Generic Low Code platforms, Mendix, Microsoft Power Apps and Outsystems using synthetic enterprise datasets. The performance was assessed based on factors such as enterprise agility, deployment time, automation effectiveness, security compliance, application response time, scalability, and enterprise performance. The experimental results show that the Workday Extend framework is superior compared to the current frameworks in terms of high enterprise agility, fast deployment, efficient workflow automation, security compliance, low response time, and good scalability. This implies that Workday Extend can be used effectively as a platform for rapid development of enterprise applications.
