Abstract: The integration of cloud computing into healthcare information technology (IT) systems has transformed the management, accessibility, and security of medical data. Cloud-based platforms allow for scalable data storage, real-time access to patient records, and collaborative opportunities among healthcare professionals, enhancing the efficiency of healthcare delivery. However, this shift introduces significant data governance challenges, particularly around regulatory compliance, security, privacy, data quality, and ethical stewardship. Ensuring robust data governance frameworks is critical to maintain trust, safeguard patient rights, and achieve operational excellence within cloud-based healthcare environments. This article explores the core components, challenges, and best practices in data governance for cloud-based healthcare IT. It reviews regulatory obligations, technological innovations, and organizational strategies necessary for effective oversight of medical data in the cloud. Through an in-depth analysis, the article emphasizes the importance of transparency, accountability, and technological alignment to ensure healthcare organizations can maximize the benefits of cloud computing while maintaining rigorous data governance. As healthcare systems evolve amidst digitization, data governance will remain a central pillar underpinning effective, safe, and compliant healthcare provision.
