Abstract: The digitalization of financial services has increased the importance of developing banking technologies that are secure, accessible, and user-oriented. This study analyzes the potential integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), biometric authentication, and conversational chatbots into Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to address security and accessibility challenges in the Mozambican banking context. The study adopts a qualitative and conceptual research design based on a structured literature review and scenario-based comparative analysis. Relevant literature on AI in banking, biometric authentication, ATM security, banking chatbots, financial inclusion, and digital literacy was analyzed thematically. A conceptual comparison was also developed between conventional PIN-based ATM systems and a proposed AI-biometric ATM model, focusing on authentication security, user assistance, accessibility, and operational usability. The reviewed evidence suggests that biometric authentication can strengthen user verification and reduce vulnerabilities associated with the sharing or observation of PINs, while AI-powered conversational interfaces may improve user autonomy by providing real-time, step-by-step assistance.
