Abstract: Effective configuration of Core Human Capital Management (HCM) in Workday forms the backbone of a streamlined and scalable HR system. This paper explores the foundational elements of Workday Core HCM configuration, focusing on the design, deployment, and governance of supervisory organizations, cost centers, locations, and company structures. Emphasis is placed on aligning Workday’s organizational models with business operations to support reporting, security, staffing, and financial alignment. The paper provides a step-by-step analysis of setting up supervisory organizations, managing position management versus job management models, and linking them to cost center hierarchies for budget and headcount tracking. Common challenges such as organizational overlaps, reorganizations, and segment-level roll-ups are addressed through real-world use cases. Key best practices include leveraging integration IDs, using custom organizations for flexibility, and applying role-based security to safeguard sensitive data.
