Abstract:

This paper uses simulations to explore the benefits of different TCP variants. This model is an attempt at cross-comparing the different flavors of TCP under different network conditions. In this simulation we try to characterize different modes of the network by forcing different number of packets drops at an intermediate router, and under such conditions we attempt to study the performance of the TCP variants, namely Tahoe, Reno, Veno, Sack. The noteworthy aspects of the simulation would be how these variants would perform relative to each other under no congestion or low congestion conditions as well as how these performances would be increasing congestion. Simulation also takes into consideration the loss of packets due to quality of the wireless links.

Abstract:

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is deployed to monitor region’s (observant field’s) parameter. To insure the location/position of sensor node in the observant area is called Localization. Earlier many localization mechanisms had been proposed; localization with Grid Scan algorithm does not exhibit much accuracy and takes more time to localized nodes. In our paper we proposed a mechanism to cover whole region by Zig – Zag path from diagonal and from the centre of the observant field. Our proposed mechanism also covers the observant field in less time and hence energy utilization increases. The algorithm also shows better node localization and reduces Average RMS error. Further it is being observed that on varying the different value of sensor and beacons, the proposed mechanism increases performance.

Abstract:

The influence of damping co-efficient and rotatory inertia correction factor on the dynamic response to constant magnitude moving load of non-uniform Rayleigh beam is investigated in this paper. The solution technique is based on the Galerkin method, Laplace transformation and convolution theorem. The deflection profile of the non-uniform beam is calculated for several values of the damping co-efficient and rotatory inertia correcting factor and shown graphically. It is found that, as the damping co-efficient increases with fixed value of the rotatory inertia correction factor, the displacement response amplitudes of the beam model decreases. Also, increase in the values of the rotatory inertia correction factor decreases the response amplitude of the beam subjected to constant magnitude moving load. Increases in the values of the other structural parameters such as foundation modulus, shear modulus and axial force lead to decrease in the deflection profile of the beam.

Keywords: Non-uniform beam, damping co-efficient, shear modulus, foundation modulus, axial force, rotatory inertia correction factor.

15. Condition Based Maintenance and Machine Diagnostics System for Heavy Duty Earth Moving Machinery

Authors: Prakash Kumar

Affiliation:

Associate Professor & Head, Production Engineering Department, B. I. T. Sindri , Dhanbad

Abstract:

Fault diagnosis is becoming one of the largest domains where condition based maintenance are find application from their early stages. The process of diagnosing faults in heavy earth moving machinery varies widely across to different approaches to systems diagnosis. The application of decision-making knowledge based methods to fault detection allows an in-depth diagnosis by simulating the human reasoning activity. Most of the past applications have been rule based while the automation of the diagnostic process including real-time data and/or modeling techniques added a new dimension to diagnostic task by detecting and predicting faults on line. Combination of machine diagnostics technique with other artificial intelligent methods or with specific classical numerical methods adds more effectiveness to the diagnostic task.

Early detection of failure modes represents the most effective way to reduce the chances of equipment failure but the existing Indian scenario in terms of machine maintenance reveals the predominance of breakdown maintenance culture, especially in the coal mining industries in particular and industries involving heavy duty earth moving machinery in general.

Various condition based models have been used in coal mining industries to support engineering design and decision making. Its availability can also be found in the area of material handling equipments to hydro electric generator. Besides, it has been used as an optimization tool for equipment selection in mining. Advanced fault diagnosis methods have also been used in various research works such as model-based approaches, knowledge based approaches, qualitative simulation, neural network, genetic algorithm and classical multivariate statistical techniques.

But, very few condition based models focus on the investigation of preventive replacement or a perfect planned maintenance policy or total productive maintenance policy that restores the equipment to an as-good-as-new state.

Abstract:

The increasing trend of unscientific utilization of water throughout the world is leading to water scarcity. Groundwater is one of the resources which has been utilized widely in the enormously growing agricultural, domestic and industrial sectors. Because of these mass utilization the resource is getting depleted. Looking for proper utilization of groundwater is an inevitable fact. Proper planning of the resource is necessary. For planning of groundwater resources, it is required first to identify groundwater potential zones. Geospatial techniques together with Multi Criteria analysis has been used recently in different areas for delineating potential zones. The method is cost effective and considers different factors that affect groundwater existence, movement and spatial distribution unlike the conventional methods like geophysical tests and terresterial survey. It only needs cross validation with site exploration once the final output map is produced. This method is applied to delineate groundwater potential zones of Abaya Chamo basin. The basin is characterized with its variable elevations, temperature and rainfall pattern. Lithology, lineament density, slope, soil, drainage density and Landuse/landcover of Abaya Chamo basin are selected as factors which affect groundwater existence. All the selected factors are ranked and weight value is estimated using AHP technique. The result shows that around 75% of the delineation of groundwater in the basin is influenced by Lithology, Lineament density and slope of the basin as shown in the decision matrix. The final groundwater potential zone map produced shows that low, moderate and high groundwater potential zones cover 13.79, 72.65 and 13.56% from the total 18,900 Km2 area of the basin, respectively.

Abstract:

This paper proposes a detailed review on Hybrid power system with solar in addition with MPPT controllers. The renewable energy sources such as solar energy and Wind energy are complementary by nature. Utilizing these natural resources to produce power will reduce the power demand on the conventional power generation sector. One of the applications of Solar-Wind hybrid power system is to reduce the amount of power consumed from the conventional power generation to charge the storage reserves present in the system. The Solar-Wind hybrid power system comprises of Photovoltaic array, wind turbine, Permanent Magnet Synchronous generator (PMSG), controller and converter. The efficiency of the Solar-Wind hybrid power system depends on the MPPT controller, which makes the Photovoltaic (PV) and wind power generation system to operate at its maximum power. A new approach Fuzzy logic based voltage controller is proposed for hybrid generation scheme using solar and wind energy for isolated applications. The fuzzy logic controller is designed to vary the duty-cycle of the DC-DC converter automatically such that to maintain the load voltage constant. The hybrid scheme comprises one set of fixed capacitor bank and a parallel connected three-phase fixed frequency Proportional Integration (PI) based pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter fed from the solar panels which provide the reactive power requirements to the permanent synchronous generator. The complete system is modelled and simulated MATLAB/Simulink environment. Results from simulations and laboratory tests show that the MPPT and dynamic characteristics is inherent.

Abstract:

In order to contribute to the protection of the environment and the development of secondary resources, this study focuses on the transformation of plastic waste into polymer matrix composite materials. For this purpose, test pieces based on sand + polyethylene and sand + polypropylene mixture, brought to 4500C were developed and subjected to water absorption, bending and compression tests. The highest water absorption rate is 0.34%. The average compressive strength is between the M 20 and Md classes (d = 25 N / mm 2) of the mortars (NBN EN 998-2). The volumic masses for their part are between 1213 kg / m3 and 1565 kg / m3.

Abstract:

An inversion algorithm with Bayesian Formulation is considered for subsurface Sensing problem. The algorithm inverts the parameters of a heterogeneity profile based on measured scattering data. The Algorithm is developed based on assumption that there is a mismatch between the measured data and the model employed, with the error represented as a random process. The mean of the distribution may be used as a point estimate of the heterogeneity profile. Here the basic Bayesian inversion framework is presented, with example results presented for subsurface-sensing problems.

Analysis on the Utilization of Modules in Alternative Learning System and Its Effect on Learners’ A and E Test Rating

Authors – Dr. John Mark Distor

Abstract- – To increase the flexibility and inclusiveness of the Alternative Learning System (ALS), the researchers sought to investigate the implications of using modular as a delivery mode and method for improving the delivery of instruction and enhancing the educational opportunities of its Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Program recipients. The researchers used a sequential mixed method research design that included quantitative (content, technical, and aesthetic acceptability level checklists; pre- and post-tests; and a questionnaire for significance assessment) and qualitative (document analysis) instruments. The findings indicated a statistically significant difference between the learners’ pre- and post-test scores. It aided them in enhancing their learning efficiency by using modular materials. Additionally, the study discovered that both teachers and learners have a good experience as a result of the flexible learning and differentiated instruction designs. Additionally, this was performed to determine the acceptability level of the A&E Readiness Test (AERT).

Leveraging Spring Boot for Scalable and Secure Wireless Sensor Network Applications

Authors -Dr. Rajesh S. Bansode, Professor

Abstract- – This paper proposes a novel framework leveraging Spring Boot for developing scalable and secure enterprise-grade applications in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). By incorporating advanced features such as Spring Boot’s built-in security mechanisms and batch integration capabilities, the framework ensures secure key management and efficient data handling. Inspired by Ramakrishna Manchana’s 2017 research, this study demonstrates how Spring Boot’s modular architecture can address the challenges of scalability and security in large-scale WSN deployments. A case study on simulated WSN scenarios highlights the framework’s effectiveness in reducing latency, improving maintainability, and securing sensitive sensor data. This research contributes to the growing body of work aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of WSN applications through modern Java-based frameworks.
